Job Title: Intermediate Youth Worker

At Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa, we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Intermediate Youth Worker to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality programs and services to our young members.

Job Summary:

The Intermediate Youth Worker will be responsible for leading and implementing programs for children and youth, creating a safe and inclusive environment that promotes social, emotional, and cognitive development. You will work closely with our Clubhouse Manager to develop and implement program plans, provide mentorship and support to our members, and collaborate with other staff members to ensure a cohesive and effective team effort.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and implement programs for children and youth, including planning, organizing, and delivering activities that promote social, emotional, and cognitive development.
  • Provide mentorship and support to our members, including one-on-one coaching, group guidance, and crisis intervention as needed.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to ensure a cohesive and effective team effort, including sharing knowledge, expertise, and resources.
  • Develop and implement program plans that align with our organization's mission and goals, including setting clear objectives, outcomes, and evaluation criteria.
  • Provide regular updates to our Clubhouse Manager on program progress, including attendance figures, program outcomes, and any challenges or concerns.
  • Be a positive role model for our members, demonstrating a commitment to our organization's values and principles.
  • Support volunteers and program placement students, providing guidance, training, and supervision as needed.
  • Liaise with parents and caregivers regarding progress and challenges of our members, including providing regular updates and support as needed.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings, training opportunities, and other events as required.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2 years of part-time direct leadership experience in a child and youth-related field, including recreation and leisure services.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Demonstrated C&Y mentoring and counseling skills, including the ability to provide guidance, support, and crisis intervention as needed.
  • Ability to work effectively with children and youth, including creating a safe and inclusive environment that promotes social, emotional, and cognitive development.
  • Demonstrated organizational and program planning skills, including the ability to develop and implement program plans that align with our organization's mission and goals.
  • Demonstrated direct leadership skills, including the ability to lead and implement programs for children and youth.
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills, including the ability to manage conflicts and challenges in a constructive and respectful manner.
  • Ability to take initiative and work both independently and within a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to engage children in programming activities, including creating a fun and inclusive environment that promotes social, emotional, and cognitive development.
  • Demonstrated ability to creatively problem solve, including the ability to think critically and develop innovative solutions to challenges and concerns.
  • Previous experience working with youth in afterschool programs and/or summer camps considered an asset.
  • Experience in delivering physical activity, sport, and recreation activities would be considered an asset.
  • Valid Driver's License and comfortable driving members to/from events is considered an asset.
  • Experience delivering creative arts programming considered an asset.
  • Experience delivering sports and recreation programming considered an asset.
  • Multilingualism is an asset (French, Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin).
Required Education and Training:
  • Current police record check – vulnerable sector (required for employees that are 19 year old and over).
  • Currently enrolled in a High School, College or University program and returning to school this September. Preference will be given to applicants studying Recreation and Leisure Services or similar programs.
  • First Aid/CPR.
  • HIGH FIVE certificate is an asset.

Compensation:

$16.25 per hour

The successful candidate will be required to obtain a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) before starting work with the organization.
