Strategic Communications Expert

Destination Canada is seeking a highly skilled Corporate Communications Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our communications team, you will play a pivotal role in both media relations and industry communications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft communications products to industry partners, including presentations and web, print, and social copy.
- Coordinate the communication of industry intelligence to industry partners in a timely, relevant, accurate, and effective manner.
- Develop and maintain relationships with industry communications professionals and work on joint initiative communications.
- Support media relations, including managing enquiries, preparing news releases, drafting media responses, and ensuring crisis communications plans are current and relevant.
- Support communications around Destination Canada events and liaise with press attending these events.
- Provide back-up support on managing corporate communications channels, including the corporate website, corporate social media, and the Destination Canada newsletter.
Requirements:
- Graduation from a recognized university in Communications or Public Relations, or an acceptable and proven combination of education, training, and experience.
- 5+ years of experience in communications roles.
- Experience developing and implementing communications plans and projects.
- Experience engaging with researchers and data analysts, and/or working with institutions or think tanks in the field of research and analysis is an asset.
- Experience working with media.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Knowledge of corporate communications and media relations practices, principles, and techniques.
- Knowledge of stakeholder management and engagement techniques.
- Solid understanding of latest AI tools and their application in communications.
- Knowledge of federal government and Crown corporation communications practices and context is an asset.
- Outstanding writing and editing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills - able to work with all levels of the organization and feel comfortable working directly with senior leaders and executives.
- Able to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines.
