Job Summary

The Personal Support Worker provides personalized support and homemaking services to clients and families within the framework of VON policies, procedures, and standards. The PSW collaborates with healthcare professionals to meet the needs of clients, promoting independence and well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assess and evaluate client needs, developing and implementing personalized care plans.
  2. Provide personal care, including bathing, dressing, and grooming, as well as light housekeeping and meal preparation.
  3. Support clients with daily activities, such as walking, climbing stairs, and using the bathroom.
  4. Communicate effectively with clients, families, and healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care.
  5. Monitor and maintain client safety, reporting any concerns to supervisors.
  6. Collaborate with healthcare teams to address client needs and concerns.
  7. Document client progress and care plans, maintaining accurate records.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • CCA Certification (Nova Scotia) or equivalent.
  • Personal Support Worker program or Health Care Aide certification.
  • Standard First Aid Certificate or CPR level C Certificate (if applicable).
  • Experience working with elderly or ill individuals or children.
  • Strong communication and assessment skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities

VON Canada is committed to providing a safe and inclusive work environment. The Personal Support Worker will be required to lift and carry objects, bend, push, pull, grip, reach, kneel, and crouch using good body mechanics. The role also involves walking, sitting, standing, and climbing stairs.
