Laboratory Technologist

Job Summary

The Government of Nunavut is seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Technologist to join our team at the Qikiqtani General Hospital in Iqaluit. As a Laboratory Technologist, you will be responsible for delivering Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine, Microbiology, Mycobacteriology, and Specimen Receiving/Processing Services.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyses samples and conducts individual patient tests using complex laboratory instrumentation and manual techniques.
• Recognizes normal and atypical findings and initiates the appropriate action.
• Prepares samples and puts them into media to encourage growth and identifies growth when present.
• Operates and understands complex laboratory instrumentation.

Requirements

• Diploma or degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from a Canadian College or University.
• Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science with a General Certificate in all areas (RT).
• Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land, and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
