Railway Track Maintenance Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Railway Track Maintenance Specialist to join our team at Great Plains Rail Contractors.

Job Summary:
This is a full-time, permanent position requiring travel throughout Western Canada for extended periods. As a Railway Track Maintenance Specialist, you will be responsible for performing various tasks related to track maintenance, including loading and unloading heavy materials, shoveling rocks and dirt, clearing railway crossings, and snow removal. You will also operate small equipment and hand tools as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure safety is a priority to self, fellow workers, the general public, and company assets, following established policies and procedures.
- Loading and unloading of heavy materials, such as tools and equipment, to and from vehicles and machines.
- Shoveling rocks and dirt for manual grading of surfaces and clearing ballasts.
- Clearing railway crossings of brush and tall grass using handheld tools and equipment.
- Removal of tie plates from the rail.
- Snow removal from crossings, right-aways, using shovels, backpack blowers, brooms, etc.
Requirements:
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Hold a valid class 5 driver's license.
- Be willing to undergo pre-employment testing, including a criminal record check, drug, alcohol, and fitness fit-for-duty testing.
- Be physically able to perform repetitive bending, standing for long periods, carrying up to 50lbs unassisted, and walking on uneven surfaces (approx. 3 miles/day).
Working Conditions:
This job requires working in all types of weather conditions and exposure to hazardous materials, loud noise, and dusty environments. The selected candidate must be willing to work outdoors for extended periods and travel extensively throughout Western Canada.
Benefits:
- Overtime pay available but not guaranteed.

- Vacation pay at 10% paid out bi-weekly upon start date.
Estimated Salary: $19.00 per hour with overtime opportunities available. Pay is competitive, reflecting the high demand for skilled workers in the railway industry.
Travel Requirements: 75% of the time, with extensive travel throughout Western Canada required for this position.
