Environmental Services Assistant

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Services Assistant to join our team in Norfolk County. This is an exciting opportunity for students enrolled in environmental related disciplines to gain hands-on experience in water and wastewater operations, maintenance, and management.
Job Summary:
- Assist staff with various job duties and projects related to water and wastewater functions
- Provide assistance with reviewing engineering drawings for new developments and capital reconstruction projects
- Update existing and create new process flow diagrams for water and wastewater treatment facilities
- Analyze sanitary sewer video inspection reports and bacteriological sample results
- Support updates to the County's GIS asset management system for water and wastewater infrastructure
- Create educational materials and assist with waste management programs
- Undertake tasks related to waste reduction programs, research methods, and compile statistics
- Design and update promotional materials for waste management initiatives
- Complete curbside set out studies and audits of materials
- Review and develop internal recycling programs
- Assist with residential complaints and questions regarding waste reduction programs
- Perform minor maintenance and special tasks at County waste management facilities
- Support preventative maintenance programs
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with staff to complete tasks and projects
- Analyze data and reports to inform decision-making
- Develop and maintain accurate records and documentation
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders and team members
- Apply problem-solving skills to resolve issues and challenges
Requirements and Qualifications:
- University or college student enrolled in an environmental related discipline (e.g., Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Studies, Geography)
- Valid Class G2 Driver's License
- Computer expertise, preferably in AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and Microsoft Office (Excel and Visio)
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Excellent time management, interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Experience operating office equipment (fax, photocopier, etc.)
