About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced legal professional to join our team as Director, Legal and Regulatory Affairs. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for providing expert legal advice and guidance on a wide range of commercial and regulatory matters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice and guidance on commercial and regulatory matters, including contract drafting and review, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
  • Work closely with our trading and origination teams to draft, revise, analyze, and negotiate a wide range of natural gas and power marketing contracts.
  • Communicate and interact with traders, risk management, and other departments to facilitate efficient contract negotiation and customer onboarding.
  • Enhance the Company's culture of compliance and minimize regulatory risk by managing aspects of the Company's compliance management system.
  • Provide expert advice to the business on risk mitigation and compliance, including FERC regulations, CFTC/Dodd-Frank regulations, ISO/RTO market rules, exchange rules, anti-corruption, and import/export requirements.
Requirements
  • Law degree (LL.B or Juris Doctor) from an accredited law school and eligibility to practice in Nova Scotia.
  • 6+ years post-call relevant commercial and transactional legal experience at a reputable law firm or in-house environment.
  • Previous experience with energy trading contracts, regulatory compliance, or risk management is highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with team members to achieve the Company's goals and maintain and strengthen relationships with our clients and key stakeholders.
  • Business acumen that enables you to offer practical legal advice that fully appreciates the business risks and opportunities of a particular transaction or matter.
