Job Overview

Wawanesa Insurance is seeking a skilled Life Insurance Underwriter to join our team. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will play a critical role in evaluating the risk of life and living benefits insurance applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough medical interviews with clients to gather information about their medical history, habits, and occupation.
  • Review individual life insurance applications and underwriting requirements to assess the degree of risk involved.
  • Select and classify risks according to company and reinsurance underwriting guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of company underwriting guidelines, workflow, and business rules.
  • Maintain accurate records of decisions made and maintain completeness of policy data.
  • Work effectively towards team goals and provide excellent customer service.

Qualifications

  • One (1) year's experience in Life and/or Living Benefits is required.
  • Experience in medical interview or a call centre or a customer service environment.
  • Post-secondary education or related business/field experience.
  • Actively working towards or completion of FALU is required.
  • Actively working towards or completion of FLMI is required.
  • Strong knowledge of human anatomy, medical terminology, diseases, tests, and treatments.
  • Strong knowledge of non-medical risk factors (e.g. occupation, avocation, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite is required.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and personal development is required.
