Seaspan is seeking an experienced and skilled Shipbuilding Welding Project Manager to join our team. This role provides the opportunity to be part of a dynamic team that contributes to the success of our shipbuilding projects.

About the Role

This position is responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of welding projects from start to finish, focusing on quality, efficiency, and safety. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in welding and project management, with experience working in a shipbuilding or heavy industry environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage work packages into production, ensuring all required information is available, launched, and tracked progress of work orders for production.
  • Coordinate the creation of work packages by liaising with technical teams.
  • Ensure welding records are updated correctly and efficiently within the welding team, in accordance with company quality assurance procedures and objectives.
  • Manage company Weldeye software weld quality management module and provide additional support to the maintenance of welder qualification and prolongation through Weldeye software.
  • Coordinate customer hold points, inspections, ITP plans, etc., to progress and complete OQE data/weld traceability to the requirements of company quality assurance processes.
  • Monitor work progress for compliance to welding requirements and escalate issues to the production supervisor.
  • Coordinate deviations from work to ensure efficient completion (repair of welds, technical errors).
  • Assist the quality assurance team to continuously improve program/project-specific documented processes and procedures.
  • Coordinate technical review meetings of welding requirements and ITP with Production Supervisor and other key stakeholders where required.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • Post-secondary education in Quality Management Systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CWB CSA 47.1 Welding Supervisor certification is an asset.
  • Shipbuilding experience is an asset.
  • Previous experience working in or closely with the welding trades.
  • IIW/IWS qualification is an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience is preferred.

  • Computer proficiency in standard Microsoft applications.
About Seaspan

We offer a competitive salary range of $81,000 - $99,000 per year, depending on your experience and qualifications. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, including health and wellness benefits, we also offer opportunities for professional growth and development.

Please note that this salary range is based on the estimated annual compensation for this role in Victoria, BC.
