Overview
The Stationary Engineer 3rd Class is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, preventive and breakdown maintenance of the heating, cooling and related plant equipment operated at all campus locations, as well as other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
Strategic Planning
Supports strategic planning efforts addressing stewardship responsibilities and long-term sustainability of the University’s campus, facilities and infrastructure and maximizing opportunities for efficient delivery of campus services and optimal investments in University-wide infrastructureDuties or Responsibilities
Operations: Duties include, but are not limited to:
Maintenance and repair of oil and gas fired boilers, chillers, water softeners and high purity water treatment systems, air compressors, ammonia based refrigeration units and related auxiliary equipment Operating and monitoring the utility plants, building automation, fire systems and elevator services Performing maintenance and repairs as required to keep equipment such as pumps, air compressors, water softeners and deionizers, ammonia-based refrigeration units, chillers and cooling tower systems operating in a safe and efficient manner Inspection and maintenance of building HVAC, mechanical and plumbing system components Responding to emergency calls of various types such as fire alarms Creating reports of equipment conditions and requisitioning materials Reports to the Shift Engineer in the absence of the Chief Stationary Engineer In the absence of a Stationary Engineer 2nd Class, may be temporarily assigned as Shift Engineer and performs duties and responsibilities applicable to such assignmentHealth & Safety

Performs the work of other trades as required to the limit of their skill and code requirements, including work of a trade of a lower pay band
Qualifications
Must have a minimum of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent and a minimum of an Ontario 3rd Class Operating Engineer CertificateMinimum of two years recent experience as an Ontario-certified 3rd Class Operating Engineer Experience in the operation and maintenance of oil and gas fired boilers, chillers, water softeners, air compressors and ammonia based refrigeration units and related auxiliary equipment Must be familiar with the operation of boiler control and building automation systems Must maintain a valid Ontario class 'G' driver's license or equivalent
