Nurse Specialist

The Alberta Health Services is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our team in a key position working in partnership with a multidisciplinary team and community stakeholders. As a Registered Nurse - Public Health, you will effectively use the nursing process to deliver quality care, providing safe, ethical, and patient/family-centered health care. Your responsibilities will include independently providing health assessment, health planning, health education, supportive counseling, preventative and screening measures, referrals, and evaluation as appropriate. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS offers a Northern Allowance of up to $6,300 per year, as well as travel expense reimbursement for eligible employees working above the 57th parallel.

As a Registered Nurse, you will provide a wide range of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations, ensuring their safety and well-being. You will utilize nursing processes, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making to teach, counsel, and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification.

Preferred Qualifications:
Public Health nursing experience with immunization, Healthy Beginnings, and Child Health Clinic. Maternal/newborn certifications: breastfeeding courses, lactation consultant, and childbirth education. Recent nursing experience with pre-natal, labor and delivery, maternal/postpartum, newborn assessment, or worked with young families/pediatric population is an asset.
