Operating Engineer, Data Centre Specialist

**Job Summary**

As a key member of the Plan Group, Inc. team, the Operating Engineer, Data Centre will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our data centre facility. This position requires a highly skilled and experienced professional who can maintain and repair complex electrical and mechanical systems, as well as troubleshoot technical issues promptly.

**Key Responsibilities**

  • Conduct regular inspections of the data centre to ensure all systems and equipment are functioning correctly and efficiently.
  • Monitor system performance to identify and address potential issues before they become major problems.
  • Maintain and perform minor repairs to electrical and mechanical systems, including UPS, generators, HVAC, and fire alarm systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues promptly to minimize downtime and ensure business continuity.
  • Escort and supervise mechanical and electrical vendors on-site to ensure quality workmanship and compliance with company standards.
  • Keep accurate maintenance records and ensure compliance with industry standards and company policies.
  • Interact with building management systems (BMS) and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to optimize system performance and efficiency.
  • Follow all safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment and ensure the well-being of colleagues and visitors.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and support staff to ensure seamless operations and achieve business objectives.
  • Be prepared to respond to emergencies and provide expertise to minimize disruptions and ensure business continuity.
  • Continuously improve operational procedures and implement best practices to enhance data centre efficiency and reliability.

**Requirements**

  • Experience working in mission-critical facilities, such as data centres.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, including UPS, generators, HVAC, and fire alarm systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as electrical or mechanical engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot technical issues promptly and effectively.
  • Detail-oriented and able to maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy equipment and working in confined spaces.
