Job Summary

We are seeking a contract faculty member to teach THRT 1204 Principles and Practices of Health in the Therapeutic Recreation Department at Douglas College. The successful candidate will have a Master's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a closely related field and experience in teaching post-secondary students. The position is for the Winter 2025 academic term, with the possibility of further contracts in the future.

Responsibilities

The faculty member will be responsible for instructing students, facilitating learning, and evaluating student progress in therapeutic recreation and other college-level courses. They will also plan, organize, and manage learning activities and resources, provide academic advice to learners, and maintain high-quality learner-centered instruction. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with all TR Department members and have a strong commitment to innovative approaches to teaching and learning.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree (in-progress considered) in Therapeutic Recreation or a closely related field. They will also have a minimum of one credential with a major in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation, or Leisure Studies. A Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) designation is preferred. The successful candidate will have knowledge and expertise in cultural diversity, the theories and constructs of health, and healthy lifestyles. They will also have excellent communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively in a team setting. The ability to use online learning platforms is required even for in-person teaching.
