Senior Risk Governance Specialist, Halifax

Manulife is seeking a Director of Risk and Control Governance to join their team in Halifax. This role will play a crucial part in building operational discipline and proactively managing risk to improve the risk culture within the organization.
- The successful candidate will lead incident reviews with management, providing timely consultation on control deficiencies and process improvement recommendations that contribute to long-term business goals.
- They will validate alignment of incidents to identified risks & issues, ensuring timely management of Incident & CAP closures.
- Additionally, they will analyze metrics used to track business performance, identifying risk trends & themes, and prepare detailed reports on account status and outstanding items.
- Developing and implementing processes and controls to prevent and minimize suspense items will be a key responsibility.
- The Director will also manage and monitor suspense accounts, lead and train the accounting team in best practices for managing suspense accounts, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Acting as the main point of contact between Audit (Internal and External) and business units, sharing audit plans and updates, organizing meetings and information exchanges, and helping business units identify issues at audit commencement will be other essential duties.
- The ideal candidate will have experience in conducting periodic testing of key controls using a risk-based methodology to enable timely identification and remediation of risk.
- Track and report on business readiness for changes driven by Regulatory changes and Corporate standards or initiatives.
- Leading an Operational control team to support the risk and control governance work within Retirement Operations will be a key responsibility.
We offer a competitive salary range of $100,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on experience.
