Canada People Can Fly Studio Full time

At People Can Fly Studio, we are seeking a seasoned Technical Designer to join our team of passionate professionals. As a key member of our Level Design team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing system design elements, tools, and workflows.

About the Role:

This role offers collaboration opportunities with various teams, including Production, Art, Environment Art, and Programmers. Your expertise will drive the technical aspects of level design, ensuring a seamless integration of design and functionality.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implementing gameplay scenarios using the existing toolset to create compelling gaming experiences.
  • Maintaining the big picture of connected features, identifying weak spots, and proposing improvements to the toolset, workflows, and pipelines.
  • Working with programmers, game designers, artists, and animators to create essential tools and solutions.
  • Assessing designs, game features, and pipelines, identifying potential risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Assisting with prototyping and production of technical elements for game features.
  • Testing new features and tools before deployment to ensure they meet departmental requirements.
  • Ensuring Level Designers comply with official metrics and technical standards.
  • Reviewing blueprints, analyzing them to identify additional efforts required for optimization or risk reduction.
  • Implementing prefabs that are easy to use, configure, or adjust by team members.
  • Maintaining a balance between creative vision and technical budget restraints.
  • Assisting with debugging and bug fixing, collaborating with other teams on interdisciplinary investigations.
Requirements:

We are looking for a highly skilled Technical Designer with a strong background in Unreal Engine 5, scripting languages, and programming paradigms. Experience in developing multiplayer or co-op titles, with an understanding of replication and network communication, is also required.

A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Game Development, or a related field is preferred. We value experience over formal education, so if you have relevant industry experience, please highlight it in your application.

You should have at least 5 years of professional experience, including 3+ years in a technical designer position, with at least one shipped PC or console AAA title. Expertise in performance profiling and optimization, debugging experience, and high problem-solving skills are essential.

Strong understanding of creative and game development processes, excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, are a must. Ability to work independently without micro-management while adhering to schedules is also important.

What We Offer:

We offer a competitive salary range of $100,000 - $150,000 per annum, depending on experience. Additionally, we provide a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.

As a member of our team, you will have opportunities for professional growth and development, as well as access to the latest game development technologies and tools.
