Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Dietary Aide to join our team at Extendicare Canada Inc. in Oshawa, Ontario. As a Dietary Aide, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of our residents by assisting with food preparation, serving meals, and maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences, maintaining proper serving temperatures and observing time limits for meal serving.
  • Assist cooks in cleaning and preparing uncooked food, such as salads, vegetables, and fruits, following basic instructions and procedures.
  • Clear plates and trays, load and operate the dishwasher, and clean pots, pans, and cooking utensils as per procedure.
  • Participate in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and food, including leftovers, and adhere to established departmental policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, fire safety, environmental safety, and infection control.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes, and participate in facility meetings and in-service education programs as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Previous dietary experience is preferred, and applicants with a Food Service Worker Certificate or enrolled in the FSW program are preferred.
  • Applicants must also have a Food Handler's Safety Certificate and be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to read and write English and understand simple verbal and written instructions in English is required.
  • Ability to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures, and moderate to heavy lifting is necessary.
  • Successful candidates must be available to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
