About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Privacy and Compliance Specialist to join our team at Healthcare Insurance Reciprocal of Canada (HIROC). As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our sensitive data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and gather evidence to assess compliance with data protection, information security, and privacy regulations.
  • Assist our Lead, Privacy and Compliance Officer with SOC 2 compliance review activities and third-party audit activities.
  • Assist with the assessment of NIST Cybersecurity Framework compliance and gather evidence to support this process.
  • Track and monitor the status of privacy and security recommendations for new systems, cloud solutions, and projects that affect sensitive data.
  • Coordinate remediation activities for identified vulnerabilities and exploits.
  • Assist with remediation efforts as required, including patch updates, server decommissioning, and other technical tasks.
  • Help develop a knowledge base for IT, including procedures, changes to technology, and associated change management.
  • Conduct phishing simulation campaigns and lead staff awareness training.
  • Maintain and update existing documentation, including policies, checklists, asset inventories, and other relevant materials.
  • Monitor various communication channels for security vulnerabilities and security patches, and assess their impact on our operating environment.
  • Review penetration test and vulnerability scan results, and coordinate mitigating activities with our Information Technology and Information Systems team.
  • Undertake least invasive vulnerability testing as instructed by our Lead, Privacy and Compliance Officer.
  • Assist in the administration of our Data Governance program, focusing on data security and privacy controls.
  • Work with our Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) to support technical investigations of alerts generated by our Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) system and Security Operations Center (SOC).
  • Assist with the development and delivery of information security awareness training programs.
  • Assist with the development of regular and ad-hoc security assessments and analytical reports for dissemination to various audiences, including our Executive Team, Operations, and Employees.
  • Work with our Lead, Privacy and Compliance Officer to roll out a Compliance Management System.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Demonstrate strong organizational, research, analytical, and problem-solving skills to evaluate situations, make recommendations, and take effective action.
  • Be able to articulate complex technical concepts or scenarios to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Hold a professional security or intelligence designation, such as CISSP, CSX-P, or CRISC (an asset).
  • Have a detailed understanding of information security concepts and the ability to work with subject matter experts in IT and cybersecurity.
  • Have good knowledge of security management principles, practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills and be a good team player.
  • Be passionate about corporate security, analysis, and problem-solving.
Education, Training, and Experience

Completed post-secondary education at the Bachelor or College level in Information Technology, with 5 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Cybersecurity-related experience and understanding of the NIST framework and SOC 2 audits would be considered an asset.

Work Environment

Normal working conditions in an office setting, with a focus on working at a computer for most of the day.

Some travel may be required for presentations, conferences, and courses.

We offer a hybrid work model.
