About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Orebody Knowledge (OBK) team as a Geochemistry Database Co-op. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a diverse group of multi-disciplinary Subject Matter Experts, applying the fundamental principles of geochemistry to better understand Teck's orebodies.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assess geochemical data and apply accepted Quality Controls (QC) to ensure that foundational datasets are fit for use.
  2. Develop skills in data analysis and data compilation while gaining valuable insights into validated industry methodologies.
  3. Collaborate with the OBK team to streamline and standardize Teck's geochemical databases across all sites and operations.
  4. Engage with and support projects across Teck, helping to support their geochemical/analytical needs.
  5. Contribute to the development of new ideas and technologies to improve business operations.
Requirements
  1. Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree or equivalent experience in Geology, Chemistry, or related fields.
  2. Able to build and nurture positive working relationships with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  3. Familiarity with common statistical techniques for evaluating analytical data for accuracy and precision.
  4. Previous experience applying QC controls to analytical data or in a production environment is an asset.
  5. Familiarity with data management tools such as acQuire relational databases, Access, Datashed, etc. is considered an asset.
  6. Strong attention to detail and ability to identify patterns/anomalies in datasets.
  7. Curiosity about geochemistry, analytical chemistry, and/or data science.
  8. Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, R, etc.) and common office efficiency tools (Excel, Word, Outlook) is highly valued.
  9. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas to all levels and partners.
  10. Proven ability to learn new technologies and platforms quickly, accurately, and efficiently.
