Animal Care Attendant Specialist

Job Summary:
The main responsibility of this role is to care for the health and welfare of animals in our shelter, while also providing support to our front office staff.
Main Responsibilities:
- Maintain the physical plant in a clean, sanitary, and efficient manner on an ongoing basis
- Clean and maintain kennel runs and cat cages
- Treat animals humanely, compassionately, and with concern, transmitting these values to others
- Provide animals with a proper diet and ensure they feed and water properly
- Ensure animal health and well-being according to our animal health policy, including administering medications as specified
- Mainitain high standards to portray a compassionate and caring image of the BC SPCA
- Assist in coordinating volunteer work and supporting activities
- Perform other duties necessary for the smooth operation of the shelter
- Work collaboratively with shelter personnel to create a positive atmosphere
Secondary Key Responsibilities:
- Front office staff assistance may be required in telephone reception, counter inquiries, receiving animals for surrender, adoption procedures, license and merchandise sales, and performance of general office routines
- Perform all tasks in a courteous and friendly manner to clients, volunteers, and staff
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Class N or 5 BC Drivers' License and driver's abstract
- Philosophical harmony with the mission, vision, and strategic direction of the BC SPCA
- Demonstrated interest in all aspects of animal welfare
- Sound knowledge of animals, their breeds, characteristics, and common diseases
- Strong desire to provide excellent customer service skills, patience, professional attitude, attention to detail, adaptability
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
- Resourceful team player who excels at building trusting relationships with colleagues, customers, and volunteers
- Highly motivated self-starter who takes initiative with minimal supervision
- Position requires physical demands, heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling, requiring an individual with the ability to maintain fitness and endurance
- Computer experience: Windows, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Ability to prioritize time demands
Estimated Salary: $20.79 per hour
