Job Description

The Senior Optical Process Engineer provides process engineering solutions in support of product development, NPI, and manufacturing of various optical product families.

We are looking for an experienced Optical Process Engineer to work with our worldwide end-to-end product development team. You will develop and implement advanced Opto/microelectronic components, modules, and sub-systems.

Nature of Duties / Responsibilities

  • Work directly with optical product design and development teams to provide process engineering solutions for new product development, NPI, and manufacturing support.
  • Support research and development of new optical process solutions.
  • Manage projects and timelines to meet customer project milestones.
  • Develop active alignment recipes on automated optical alignment systems for free space optics, grating, coupling, edge coupling, fiber arrays, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and analyze process performance problems. Provide technical guidance to less experienced team members.
  • Conduct research into complex engineering problems to develop new operating policies, capabilities, and processes.
  • Assist the Process Engineering team in delivering accountabilities. Take ownership of processes under control.
  • Create Process Assembly documentation.
  • Conceptualize tooling and fixtures.
  • Perform qualification on new processes being introduced.
  • Implement and suggest engineering changes.
  • Research, procure, and accept new equipment for evolving technologies.
  • Support customer NPI builds within tight timelines.
  • Provide DFx feedback to internal and external design teams to optimize manufacturability, increase yields, and throughput.

Requirements

  • University degree in Engineering required.
  • 8+ years' experience in Process or Manufacturing Engineering role.
  • Experience with active optical alignment of free space optics. Familiarity with ficonTEC automated aligners is a strong asset.
  • Programming experience on different equipment.
  • A background in executing 'best practice' process control is necessary.
  • Understanding of electronics assembly environment operating methodologies.
  • Experience with implementing Engineering changes.
  • Familiarity with organizing file folders and naming conventions.
  • Laboratory experience with tweezers handling bare dies or miniature components, microscopes, camera systems, etc.
  • Laser welding experience is beneficial.
  • Establishing active alignment requirements and setup of eng bench type systems experience is beneficial.
  • Auto CAD/SolidWorks experience is beneficial.
  • Lean manufacturing principles experience is beneficial.
  • DFM and FMEA experience is beneficial.
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency.

Estimated Salary: $110,000 - $140,000 per year, based on location and experience.
