**Job Summary**

Fasken, a leading Canadian law firm, is seeking a highly skilled Patent Agent to join its collaborative team within the intellectual property group. This exciting opportunity will challenge and engage the successful candidate, who will be responsible for drafting and carrying out patent applications in Canada and abroad.

**Key Responsibilities**

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Drafting and prosecuting patent applications in Canada and abroad;
  • Preparing written opinions on the patentability of inventions and the validity or infringement of patents;
  • Participating in strategic processes associated with innovation, intellectual property, and due diligence in the field of intellectual property relating to commercial transactions;
  • Performing technical and legal analyses of patents and dealing with patent litigation cases either as a lawyer, an agent, or both.

**Required Qualifications**

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A patent agent registration with the College of Patent Agents & Trademark Agents (CPATA) or at least four (4) years of experience in the field;
  • An undergraduate degree in pure or applied sciences, such as mechanical engineering, physics, or any other related field;
  • A graduate degree in science, such as a master's degree or a PhD, would be considered an asset;
  • A lawyer registration with the Barreau du Québec would also be considered an asset;
  • Fluency in both French and English, an important asset.
