Job Summary

The Chemical Process Operator is a key member of our production team, responsible for supporting the efficient operation of our active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) facility. This includes setting up, operating, and monitoring heavy equipment, such as reactors, filters, dryers, mills, and production facilities, used to mix and handle ingredients. The successful candidate will also be responsible for recording information and observations related to the mixing process, troubleshooting equipment issues, and contributing to process improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and monitor processing steps as assigned by senior team members, ensuring quality work in a timely manner.
  • Work in compliance with all departmental and company health and safety policies, SOPs, cGMP procedures, and other governmental regulations.
  • Accurately record data in production documents in a timely manner.
  • Report injuries, accidents, or damaged equipment.
  • Use personal safety equipment and follow safety procedures.
  • Maintain the production facility in a neat and tidy manner, adhering to departmental policy.
  • Clean and sanitize production equipment and areas, using detergents and chemicals.
  • Communicate effectively with senior team members, including reporting plant and equipment status, observations, or problems.
  • Review new or updated departmental SOPs and attend required training sessions.
  • Work in a support role in different work centers, shadowing experienced operators to gain knowledge and skills.
  • Arrive at work 15 minutes prior to shift and prepare for the upcoming shift.
  • Work collaboratively as a team member to achieve all outcomes.

  • Ensure personal adherence to all compliance programs, including the Global Business Ethics and Compliance Program, Global Quality policies and procedures, Safety and Environment policies, and HR policies.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Education: Minimum high school diploma; College Diploma or CET (chemical engineering technician) certification is strongly preferred; Post-secondary degree in chemical engineering or chemistry is desirable.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Aptitude for mechanics.
    • Basic computer skills (e.g., MS Office).
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills and good command of the English language.
    • Able to multi-task in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
    • Desire to work with team members to improve processes and product quality.
    • Willingness to comply with safety and quality regulations, including wearing protective equipment.
    • Must meet physical requirements of the position, including walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods, lifting heavy objects, climbing, crouching, and operating tools and equipment.
    • Must be flexible and able to work continental (rotating days and nights) 12-hour shifts.
    • Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset and knowledge of GMP requirements are assets.
  • Experience: Prior experience working in an industrial, manufacturing environment (6 months minimum); Process chemistry experience is preferred.
