About the Role:


Norton Rose Fulbright is seeking a qualified Compliance Counsel to join our Compliance team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the firm's compliance with applicable rules of professional conduct, regulatory obligations, and legal orders.



Your Key Responsibilities:



• Conduct and/or review domestic search requests that require escalation, particularly in litigious matters, to check conflicts of interest for new clients and matters, utilizing internal and external databases to assist with analysis.


• Review and analyze international conflict search requests, particularly in litigious matters, liaising with the Compliance teams in EMEA, Australia, South Africa, and the United States.


• Communicate with fee-earners throughout the compliance checking process, building consensus to resolve conflicts and advise on results.


• Provide guidance and counsel to fee earners on compliance and conflicts issues.


• Prepare waiver/consent language and assist with drafting engagement letters for partner review and submission to clients.


• Draft ethical screens and assist with information barrier management.


• Collaborate with a team of analysts to ensure consistent workflow and timely production of requests.


• Provide guidance and counsel to Compliance team members on compliance and conflicts issues, and identify and provide training for team members and internal clients on compliance and conflicts of interest.


• Monitor the development of compliance obligations worldwide.



About You:



We are looking for a qualified Canadian lawyer with years of experience working as a fee-earner or in the regulatory area in a similar international legal practice. You should have excellent commercial judgment, strong written and oral communication skills, and experience operating in a multi-cultural environment.


You should be able to influence at all levels, including senior management and partners, and be confident in exercising risk-based judgment calls daily.


Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset, and knowledge of Intapp conflict checking and ethical wall software is a plus but not required.


The successful candidate will have a salary range of $-$$, based on experience, and will be required to provide proof of vaccinations recommended by government or public health authorities during employment.
