Job Summary

The primary function of this position is to provide spiritual counseling services to patients, incorporating their personal and cultural backgrounds. As an Edgewood Chaplain, you will work collaboratively with the treatment team to create a safe and non-judgmental space for patients to address their spiritual concerns.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct individual spiritual counseling sessions, tailoring approaches to meet the unique needs of each patient.
  • Monitor and support patients as they navigate challenges in writing their Fourth Steps.
  • Develop and implement plans to prepare patients for the Fourth Step, providing essential tools and resources.
  • Document assessment findings and treatment recommendations through comprehensive reviews of the 5th Step and Cycle, along with Life Tapestry assessments.
  • Facilitate group counseling sessions, fostering a sense of community and shared understanding among patients.
  • Cultivate a rapport with patients and staff, establishing trust and open communication channels.
  • Seek supervision and consultation when needed to ensure the highest level of care.
  • Record and document patient progress, behavior, and identified issues relevant to the treatment plan.
  • Write detailed SOAP (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan) notes, highlighting treatment processes and progress towards goals.
  • Support patients in committing to actions addressing their substance use behaviors.
  • Develop aftercare plans, relapse prevention strategies, and discharge planning, as requested by the Clinical Director or Supervisor.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must possess:

  • An ordained minister or priest status from a generally recognized religion.
  • A willingness to work in a non-denominational capacity.
  • A solid understanding of the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous and other 12 Step programs.
  • If in recovery, a minimum of five years without reported misuse or abuse of mood-altering chemicals.
  • Superior reading, writing, and communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • A working knowledge of various addiction models and theories.
  • The ability to describe the behavioral, psychological, physical health, and social effects of substance behaviors on users and significant others.
  • The capacity to recognize potential substance use disorders mimicking or coexisting with medical and psychological conditions.
  • An appreciation for the importance of family and community in the treatment and recovery process.
  • Understanding of the value of an interdisciplinary approach to addiction treatment.
Compensation and Benefits

This rewarding role offers a competitive salary range of $70,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. Additionally, you will enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including a yearly allowance for mental health and addiction services, access to in-house fitness facilities, and a defined benefit pension plan through CAAT with up to a 4% employer contribution.
