Job Description: As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse with Fraser Health, you will provide treatment and care management services to individuals with mental illness and concurrent disorders.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates care for clients by collaborating with interprofessional care teams, conducting mental health assessments, developing and implementing comprehensive treatment plans, administering prescribed medications, and monitoring client response to treatments.
  • Plans and provides direct nursing care to clients, including reviewing client history, conducting physical and psychosocial assessments, assessing vital signs, and developing care plans specific to each client's needs.
  • Works from a strengths-based model, using motivational interviewing and engagement techniques to develop individualized care plans and assist clients in accessing appropriate services in the community.
  • Establishes and maintains therapeutic relationships with clients and their informal support networks by engaging stakeholders in treatment planning and evaluation, providing support and follow-up planning, and promoting self-care and informed decision-making.
  • Provides treatment services, including crisis intervention, individual counseling, and education, according to various theoretical models and as required by methods such as assessing situations, eliciting concerns, exploring emotional responses to illness, identifying goals and expectations, and teaching coping strategies.
  • Initiates and participates in case conferences and meetings with clients, families, service providers, and members of the interprofessional team to ensure a coordinated approach to treatment and to address emergent issues and ongoing follow-up care.
  • Collaborates with members of the interprofessional care team, including physicians, primary care providers, clinical nurse educators, and other healthcare professionals/providers, to identify and resolve issues, adjust care plans as needed, and address changes in client condition.
  • Maintains a safe environment for clients, visitors, and employees by adhering to established safety and emergency practices and procedures, reporting any risks and anomalies to the Team Coordinator.
  • Participates in research and quality improvement activities by identifying client care issues, collecting data, and making recommendations for corrective action and changes to practices, procedures, or protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing and two years of recent related experience providing treatment services to individuals with mental health and/or concurrent disorders, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with clients, families/caregivers, the public, medical staff, and members of the interprofessional care team.
  • Ability to promote person-centered care that demonstrates empathy for clients/families/caregivers, sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, and advocacy for special populations.
