About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Community Lead to join our team at the ALS Society of Canada. As a key member of our organization, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals living with ALS and their families in Central, North Simcoe Muskoka and Northern Ontario.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support Services
    • Manage a caseload of clients, providing regular communication and support to help them navigate the healthcare system.
    • Identify issues, manage information, and provide non-clinical support to clients and families.
    • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, families, and equipment program teams to support the equipment program process.
    • Facilitate support groups, make referrals to community services, and provide bereavement support as needed.
    • Liaise with healthcare and social services professionals to advocate on behalf of clients.
  • Advocacy and Awareness
    • Raise awareness about ALS disease among healthcare providers, community agencies, and the public.
    • Develop partnerships with healthcare and social services organizations to promote ALS awareness.
    • Represent the ALS Society of Canada in local and provincial advocacy efforts, including community events and media interviews.
    • Attend government meetings to advocate for ALS-related issues.
  • Fund Development
    • Assist with Walk to End ALS events, working with the Fund Development team to drive recruitment and training for event volunteers.
    • Identify potential donors and relationships to enhance regional fund development activities.
    • Participate in and develop fundraising community events in the region, representing the ALS Society of Canada.
  • Other
    • Work independently from a home office.
    • Travel to visit clients in Northern Ontario as required.
    • Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
  • Successful completion of an accredited health discipline program and eligibility for registration with a professional regulatory college.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a healthcare-related field.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario healthcare system and resources.
  • Excellent computer skills and experience with CRM systems.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.
  • Demonstrated excellence in relationship building, teamwork, problem-solving, advocacy, and time management.
  • Compassionate and professional with the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Comfortable connecting with clients and teammates on a virtual platform.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Inherent demonstration of ALS Canada's core values: accountability, collaboration, compassion, integrity, dynamism, and respect.
  • Experience with palliative care and fundraising are assets.
  • Bilingualism is an asset.
  • Previous experience working with volunteers and volunteer committees is preferred.
