Public Affairs Coordinator

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a highly skilled External Relations Leader to join its team. As a key member of the Public Affairs department, this role will play a critical part in building and maintaining strong relationships with local community leaders, stakeholders, and civic groups.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as the primary point of contact for VCH with local community leaders, elected officials, and public sector staff.
- Work closely with VCH program teams to address stakeholder inquiries and issues, providing strategic communication support and guidance.
- Support VCH operational leaders with local stakeholder relations, including coordinating meetings, developing and delivering briefings, and preparing presentations.
- Provide coaching and oversight to the Public Affairs Coordinator, ensuring effective communication and stakeholder engagement.
- Lead the planning and execution of public engagement events, including developing agendas, speaking notes, and briefing materials.
- Support the distribution and dissemination of VCH announcements and operational updates to key community leaders.
- Provide communications support to corporate and regional project teams, as required.
To be successful in this role, you will require:
- A degree in a relevant field, such as Political Science, Communication, or Public Relations, combined with a minimum of seven years of experience in communication and/or stakeholder relations.
- Previous experience working in healthcare or a public sector environment is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of the principles of communication, including diplomacy, tact, and composure.
- Ability to recognize emerging issues, garner resources to manage the response, and demonstrate composure in complex situations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to incorporate local, regional, national, and global perspectives.
- Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
