About the Role
The Associate Director plays a key role in making and managing private equity/venture capital fund investments. Reporting to a Director, the Associate Director is responsible for providing ongoing support in the form of financial modeling, screening potential investment opportunities, conducting market research, providing assistance with due diligence, drafting investment summaries and internal memorandums, and general account administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Modeling: ownership of the analysis of financial information presented by prospects and portfolio funds and their holdings
- Market Research & Screening: pro-actively identifying, researching and recommending prospects in consultation with the investment team; and providing accurate information and data to support recommendations
- Investment Committee Presentations: lead and take ownership of investment submissions and related memorandums on behalf of the investment team in consultation with the Director
- Due Diligence: provide support and assistance in all aspects of the due diligence process
- Coordination with internal and external parties to ensure smooth transaction closings
- Portfolio Management: monitor all assigned accounts; conduct portfolio analytics, cash forecasting and risk modeling: timely review of financial statements and promptly identify deteriorating situations with recommended solutions
Additional Responsibilities
- Manage monitoring and internal reporting and review activities for private equity/venture capital fund investments
- Ensuring accurate and prompt completion of REP reports and correspondence
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
- Assist the Director and the Managing Director with investment objectives and policies
- Other duties as assigned from time to time by the Director
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in private equity/venture capital fund investments and portfolio management; Undergraduate degree
- CFA, CA/CPA, CBV or Masters' degree in business/economics considered an asset
- Completion of ILPA certification is required
- Solid accounting skills and experience
- Advanced Financial Modeling skills and experience
- Advanced knowledge of institutional investment principles and practices
- Advanced proficiency with MS Office – Word, PP, Excel
- Analytical mindset, strong valuation, due diligence and research skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects under pressure to meet tight deadlines
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a high performing culture
