Job Summary

The Business Development and Contracts Officer will assist researchers and clinicians with the execution of relevant research contracts and agreements. This role is responsible for drafting and reviewing non-disclosure agreements, bio-material transfer agreements, collaborative research agreements, sponsored research agreements, service agreements, license agreements, and other grant-related contracts.

The Officer will also assist team members in identifying and protecting the organization's Intellectual Property (IP) and actively marketing it for commercialization. Additionally, they will advise researchers and spin-off companies on financial opportunities available through government programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Draft and negotiate various contracts and agreements required for industry and government-sponsored research.
  • Work closely with researchers and clinicians to determine the most appropriate form of contract to govern the research and identify potential encumbrances.
  • Negotiate business and legal obligations of contracts with third parties to ensure consistency with the organization's mandate and policy.
  • Assist with licensing IP to local, national, and international businesses, including negotiating royalty structures and business arrangements.
  • Participate in collaborative research through identifying research opportunities, securing funding, and negotiating agreements.
  • Assist in the formation of spin-off companies by providing information and general assistance to researchers on company formation, structure, management, and financing.
  • Conduct market research and analysis of industry opportunities for technologies and prepare marketing summaries and plans for commercialization.
  • Assist in protecting IP through determining the most appropriate form of protection, preparing and filing documentation, and devising an international patent strategy.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Science or Business, plus a minimum of two years of experience in industry or technology transfer, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to manage complex projects and work under pressure.
  • Functional knowledge in at least one area of technical or scientific expertise and working knowledge of computer application programs.
  • Ability to travel.
