About the Role

Mercer Celgar seeks a dedicated and skilled Environmental Lab Technologist to join our Environment and Laboratory departments. As a key member of our team, you will contribute to maintaining and optimizing our pulp production chemical circuit and conducting environmental sampling required for permits and compliance.

Responsibilities

  1. Collaborate with our team to ensure safety, experience, and operational efficiency within the Laboratory and Environment Department.
  2. Conduct a wide range of analytical and field tests, including BOD, COD, Stack Sampling for Air Emissions (SOx, NOx, Particulate, TRS, ClO2, etc.), microbiological effluent treatment monitoring, groundwater sampling, process chemical testing, aquatic receiving environment studies, etc.
  3. Analyze and interpret data trends, promptly identifying process variations in close coordination with Operations stakeholders.
  4. Perform troubleshooting and basic equipment maintenance and contribute to method development, validation, and reporting.
  5. Execute analytical process testing and environmental sampling focusing on wastewater treatment processes.
  6. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015 and 14000:2015 standards, and adhere to QAQC programs. Proficiency in BC Sampling Guidelines is essential.
  7. Utilize Google Drive, including Google Docs and Google Sheets, for effective data management and reporting.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree or Diploma (Dip.) in Science with a specialization in Chemistry.
  • A strong asset: 3-5 years of industrial laboratory experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of laboratory and sampling techniques and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with current legislation and regulatory requirements for the industry.
  • Proficiency in ISO 9001, 14001, 17025, or QA/QC laboratory programs.
