We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Hog Barn Manager to join our team at Maple Leaf Foods. Key Responsibilities- Provide effective leadership, coaching, and training to all employees under their direction, promoting a culture of excellence and teamwork.
- Recruit, select, and orient new employees, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their roles.
- Develop and implement training programs, including Pork Avenue Training and on-the-job training, to enhance employee performance and knowledge.
- Evaluate and manage employee performance, identifying areas for improvement and providing constructive feedback.
- Workforce planning and management, ensuring the right people are in the right roles to meet production targets.
- Accountable for the implementation of CQA, Food Safety, and Animal Welfare policies, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Lead the development and implementation of Environment and Sustainability initiatives on site, minimizing our environmental footprint.
- Maintain a safe working environment, educating and directing employees on equipment use and safe work procedures, while ensuring compliance with the MLAF OHS Program.
- Ensure the site is kept in good repair through a routine maintenance program, minimizing downtime and optimizing production.
- Accurate payroll record keeping, tracking absenteeism, vacation days, and hours worked.
- Effective strategic decision-making, recognizing when decisions are required and seeking necessary information to make informed choices.
- Prioritize workload for their position and team, working with Team Leads to ensure seamless operations.
- Identify mechanical issues and recommend solutions to maximize equipment performance.
- Collaborate with the Manager, Hog Production or Senior Specialist, Hog Production to implement new programs, meet, and exceed MLAF production and financial targets.
- Review data reporting in all areas, identifying opportunities for efficiency gains.
- Work in all production areas of the farm, as required, to ensure a comprehensive understanding of operations.
- Accountable for accurate inventory levels and purchasing, ensuring timely and cost-effective procurement.
- Attend Hog Barn Manager/Operations/Health and Safety Meetings/Training workshops as required, staying up-to-date with industry best practices.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a swine production role is required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a leadership role is required.
- A valid driver's license is required, as the successful candidate must be able to attend training/meetings.
- Computer knowledge is required.
- Grade 12 diploma is preferred.
- Post-secondary education is an asset.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
- The ability to train and coach employees effectively, work in a team environment, work under pressure, and handle multiple priorities and complex tasks simultaneously.
- The ability to live and teach our Maple Leaf Leadership Values.
