Job Summary
This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for all areas relating to financial planning, forecasting, analysis, procurement, and cash management. The Financial Planning Manager will manage the team to ensure compliance with Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and the Accounting and Organization Policy & Procedures, ensuring all statutory and management reports are completed in a timely and accurate manner. Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal, are required for contact with Executives.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the preparation of annual operating and capital budgets, providing consultation and guidelines to budget owners to ensure understanding of budget dynamics and organizational changes.
- Prepare necessary financial reports to support the organization's goals and integrate the financial impact of selected strategies into models.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly forecast reports and review Ministry funding situations to optimize resource utilization.
- Identify areas for improvement to continually drive performance and business results.
- Collaborate with other department managers to support overall organizational goals and objectives.
- Provide training, coaching, support, and guidance to accounting staff; handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
- Work with each direct report to establish goals and performance objectives; monitor, communicate, and coach on progress to help staff achieve higher performance.
- Support the CFO with special projects and process improvements.
- Perform any other duties as assigned from time to time.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Commerce, or a related field.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
- 5 years of related experience in not-for-profit environments with in-depth knowledge of Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills with attention to detail and openness to new ideas and procedures.
- High standards of accuracy and precision; highly organized.
- Articulate with excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Chinese.
- Ability to think creatively; highly self-driven and self-motivated.
- Demonstrated ability to take on challenging tasks and work with team members in a hands-on management capacity.
- Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex business and financial reports.
- A high level of commitment to customer service towards internal and external customers.
- Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure with a proactive approach.
- Extensive experience with MS Office software and Sage Accpac accounting software.
- Experience in cost analysis is an asset.
