Microbiology Laboratory Specialist (BCGEU) - Temporary Regular Part Time

LifeLabs Medical Laboratory Services is in search of a Microbiology Laboratory Specialist to become a vital part of our team.

Our specialists are responsible for delivering precise and prompt diagnostic specimen testing and reporting. By ensuring accuracy, quality, and efficiency in test results, you will play a crucial role in promoting patient health and achieving improved health outcomes. This position is ideal for a meticulous, hands-on individual who excels in a dynamic, collaborative setting.

This is a Temporary Regular Part Time position with adaptable shift schedules that supports a balanced work/life integration. LifeLabs facilities are recognized as educational laboratories, providing opportunities for knowledge sharing in a cooperative atmosphere, round-the-clock medical support from our Medical Science team, and resources for mentoring college and university student placements.

This role is a Temporary part-time 0.6 FTE position within the Microbiology department. Cross-training in Urinalysis and Molecular Diagnostics may be included. The position follows a predetermined rotation with variable shift hours between 5:00-00:30. Experience in Microbiology, Urinalysis, or Molecular Diagnostics within the last 5 years is preferred.
Rotation: Week 1-Week 6: Sun, Mon, Fri

Your key responsibilities will encompass:

  1. Executing a broad spectrum of diagnostic and interpretive specimen testing
  2. Conducting, interpreting, and disseminating results while safeguarding patient confidentiality
  3. Recognizing incidents and discrepancies, contributing to the formulation of effective corrective action plans, escalating issues as necessary, and fostering continuous improvement
  4. Assisting in the assessment and integration of new technologies
  5. Engaging in problem-solving related to work organization and workflow

LifeLabs seeks a Registered Technologist with CSMLS credentials who can collaborate effectively in a fast-paced team environment while upholding LifeLabs' standards of safety, precision, and efficiency. Do you possess:

  • A college diploma or university degree in Medical Laboratory Science, or equivalent education and/or experience
  • Exceptional communication skills to engage with a diverse range of individuals
  • Proficient computer skills and knowledge
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, including the capacity to identify and address issues
  • Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety, patient privacy, and confidentiality
