Position Overview
In alignment with a psychosocial rehabilitation framework and adhering to the standards set forth by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), this role involves collaboration within a multidisciplinary team dedicated to mental health and addiction services. The focus is on delivering treatment and case management that is inclusive and adaptable for individuals facing mental health challenges and concurrent disorders.
Key responsibilities include fostering relationships with clients, their families, and colleagues to ensure the provision of tailored treatment services grounded in best practices and client requirements.
Core duties encompass conducting intake assessments, mental health evaluations, outreach as necessary, treatment planning, crisis intervention, consultations, individual counseling, educational sessions, and facilitating support groups to streamline client access to necessary services.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
A diploma in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing is essential.
A minimum of two (2) years of recent experience in providing treatment services to individuals with mental health concerns, or a comparable mix of education, training, and experience is required.
Current registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) is mandatory.
A valid BC Driver's License is also required, as local travel may necessitate the use of a personal vehicle.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
A comprehensive understanding of nursing theory and practice within a client-centered care model.
Familiarity with BCCNM standards for nursing and psychiatric nursing practice.
In-depth knowledge of mental health disorders and treatment methodologies.
Awareness of substance abuse and addiction treatment protocols.
Understanding of psychopharmacology, including indications and potential side effects.
Proficiency in counseling techniques and group facilitation.
Knowledge of community resources and other healthcare disciplines.
Familiarity with adult education principles and methods.
Understanding of relevant legislation and government policies affecting client care.
Proven ability to conduct mental health assessments and develop treatment plans, as well as manage crisis situations.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with clients, families, and healthcare professionals, in both individual and group settings.
Strong listening and information-gathering skills that foster effective communication and collaborative problem-solving within a multidisciplinary environment.
Demonstrated capacity to prioritize workload effectively.Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Adaptability to new or unforeseen circumstances.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Capability to manage conflict situations effectively.
