Pediatric Occupational Therapist

Hamilton Health Sciences is seeking a dedicated and experienced Pediatric Occupational Therapist to join our team at McMaster Children's Hospital.
The 3Y Pediatric Inpatient Surgical Care/Gastrointestinal Unit provides acute tertiary and sub-specialty surgical care, including pediatric trauma, to children aged 0-17. As an integral member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, you will play a vital role in delivering comprehensive care to these young patients.
Your Responsibilities:
- Apply your clinical expertise to assess, evaluate, and treat pediatric surgical patients, focusing on their occupational performance in areas such as feeding and swallowing, self-care, productivity, and leisure activities.
- Collaborate with a team of healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, social workers, and other therapists, to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
- Coordinate community services and supports to ensure seamless transitions for patients and their families upon discharge.
- Provide education and support to patients, families, and caregivers regarding pediatric surgical conditions and rehabilitation strategies.
- Contribute to a positive and supportive work environment that fosters teamwork, collaboration, and professional growth.
Qualifications:
- Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
- Graduate of an approved School of Occupational Therapy.
- Relevant experience, knowledge, and clinical skills in providing evidence-based occupational therapy practice to infants, children, adolescents, and their families.
- Minimum of three years' recent, relevant clinical experience in a tertiary pediatric setting.
- Demonstrated experience with assessment, evaluation, and treatment of pediatric surgical patients.
- Experience with pediatric feeding and swallowing assessment and treatment is preferred.
- Well-developed knowledge of the role of occupational therapy services and other disciplines along the continuum of care.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
