Position Overview
As the Engineering and Technical Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our technical initiatives. Reporting directly to the President, your primary responsibility will be to establish and enhance standards and strategies for our on-site technical programs. You will also develop project management frameworks and tools, while leading, coaching, and mentoring both technical and capital project teams. This position will initially oversee four direct reports and will be instrumental in nurturing the growth of emerging project managers within the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Strategic Leadership: Provide visionary leadership to the project, mechanical design, facilities, and maintenance teams, promoting a culture of innovation, teamwork, and ongoing improvement. Act as the primary contact for Security and IT.
  2. Project Oversight: Manage the planning, execution, and successful delivery of engineering projects, infrastructure enhancements, and equipment upgrades, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality benchmarks.
  3. Team Development: Cultivate and mentor a high-performing team, fostering professional growth and skill enhancement.
  4. Technical Knowledge: Stay informed about industry trends, technological innovations, and best practices, applying this expertise to guide the team in the adoption of new technologies and methodologies.
  5. Interdepartmental Collaboration: Work closely with various departments, including R&D, production, finance, and quality assurance, to ensure the seamless integration of engineering solutions into overall business operations.
  6. Resource Management: Efficiently allocate resources, including personnel, budget, and equipment, to maximize productivity and achieve project objectives.
  7. Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and challenges associated with engineering projects and develop proactive strategies to mitigate them.
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering or a related discipline.
  2. Demonstrated experience in engineering or technical management roles.
  3. Experience in pyrotechnics or explosives (manufacturing, use, or design) is considered advantageous.
  4. Proven track record in leading and developing high-performing teams.
  5. Exceptional project management capabilities, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Formal qualifications are a plus.
  6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  7. Effective communication abilities, capable of conveying technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  8. Proficiency in MS Teams, O365, and Excel.
  9. Familiarity with regulatory agencies, including but not limited to MECP, NRC-ERD, MOL, Health Canada, and WSIB.
  10. Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Experience and qualifications in LEAN, 6Sigma, or TPM are advantageous.
The role requires a minimum of intermediate proficiency in English across reading, writing, and oral communication.
