Asset and Inventory Project Accountant

Position Overview
The Government of Nunavut is seeking a dedicated professional for the role of Project Accountant – Assets and Inventory. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate tracking and management of corporate assets and inventory.
Location
Baker Lake, Nunavut
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain comprehensive records of all corporate capital assets and inventories, including additions, disposals, write-downs, and depreciation.
- Prepare audit schedules for fixed assets and inventory, addressing audit inquiries as necessary.
- Conduct regular inventory analyses to identify non-moving and slow-moving items, recommending appropriate actions.
- Utilize generation reports to reconcile accounts payable with accounts receivable.
- Review and authorize pending electronic fund transfers and cheque payments.
- Process invoices for completed recoverable projects and provide updated reports as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business or Commerce with a focus on Accounting or Finance.
- Professional designation such as Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or progress towards CPA.
- A minimum of five years of accounting experience, ideally in a project-based environment within a utility sector.
Preferred Assets:
- Experience in public sector accounting.
- Familiarity with the culture, land, and language of Nunavut.
- Ability to communicate in Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, and/or French.
A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered. The position offers a competitive salary range and a northern living allowance, along with a comprehensive benefits package, including a defined-benefit pension program. Subsidized staff housing is also available.
Note: Preference will be given to Nunavut Inuit.
