Position Overview

Our Service team, comprising over 500 technicians across the United States and Canada, is a key differentiator for our company. As a Field Service Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing both battery and engine-powered Tennant products at customer locations. Your role will involve diagnosing equipment issues and determining the necessary steps to restore functionality. By delivering exceptional communication and craftsmanship, our Service Technicians become invaluable assets to Tennant Company.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Conduct preventative maintenance and address complex issues by diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic systems, and combustion engine problems on customer-owned Tennant products and comparable competitor models.
  • Manage your territory by organizing your daily schedule, including reaching out to customers to arrange all service activities. Maintain clear communication with customers regarding service expectations, timelines, billing, and future service requirements. Document all service activities and business reporting accurately. Ensure cleanliness and organization of all Tennant Company property, including the company vehicle, tools, parts, inventory, and equipment. Adhere to all safety protocols and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Collaborate with internal teams such as sales, customer service, technical support, field service assistance, and fellow technicians to enhance your success.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A valid driver's license and compliance with Tennant Company driving policy are necessary.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in troubleshooting and repairing combustion engines (LP, Diesel, or Gas), mechanical and electrical systems, and proficiency in using hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, and personal computers, including MS Office Suite and email.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational training in automotive, diesel, or electrical fields is preferred.
  • Previous experience with mobile equipment (e.g., forklifts, heavy machinery) and direct customer interaction is advantageous.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds, with most items weighing between 2 and 20 pounds. Occasionally, items weighing up to 90 pounds may need to be lifted, with assistance provided for heavier items.
  • Frequent activities include sitting, standing, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, kneeling, or squatting.
  • Daily driving to customer sites, which may involve frequent travel of over 2 hours.
