Role Overview:

The Community Engagement Specialist in Harm Reduction plays a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals facing homelessness and substance use challenges. This position is integral to the REACH Program, which is dedicated to promoting community health and safety through outreach and supportive interventions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Client Relationship Building: Establish and nurture trusting connections with individuals utilizing substances, focusing on harm reduction methodologies.
  • Resource Coordination: Stay informed about local services and provide essential information and referrals to clients and team members.
  • Orientation and Support: Guide new clients and staff through the milieu, ensuring understanding of rights, responsibilities, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Crisis Management: Collaborate with Care Managers to develop self-care and crisis intervention strategies tailored to client needs.
  • Office Management: Assist in maintaining an organized environment by managing front desk operations and facilitating client flow.
  • Group Facilitation: Organize and lead support groups, training sessions, and community events.

Overdose Prevention and Response:

  • Provide education on safe substance use practices and overdose prevention strategies.
  • Act as a liaison with the Drug User Health Team, coordinating site-based harm reduction services.
  • Respond effectively to overdose incidents and behavioral health emergencies within the community.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of client interactions and community engagement in compliance with program standards.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and training sessions to enhance service delivery.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; a degree in a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in direct service roles within mission-driven organizations.
  • Familiarity with local resources, harm reduction principles, and overdose prevention techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to various substances and biohazardous materials may occur.
  • Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 30 pounds is necessary.
