POSITION SUMMARY

The City of Maple Ridge is seeking a dedicated Development Services Technician to enhance our vibrant team. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with exceptional communication skills, adept at resolving conflicts and providing outstanding customer service.

In this position, you will deliver direct, face-to-face support to clients regarding technical questions related to building regulations, inspection protocols, and zoning laws. Your duties will encompass reviewing and processing permit applications, coordinating inspections, maintaining data systems, and providing administrative assistance to our building division.

Key responsibilities include assisting clients at the service counter or via phone with comprehensive answers to inquiries about zoning and building codes, water services, and permit applications. You will also ensure the accuracy of application submissions, clarify deficiencies, calculate fees, issue permits, and confirm payments.

The ideal candidate will possess strong communication abilities and a customer-focused approach, with 3 to 4 years of experience in municipal building departments or a related sector. If you are prepared to make a significant contribution to our organization, we welcome your application.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of high school, supplemented by introductory technical courses relevant to the role; along with substantial related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • In-depth understanding of departmental and divisional procedures, bylaws, rules, and regulations pertinent to the role.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of development, zoning, utilities, building, and licensing bylaws and regulations as they relate to the position.
  • Solid understanding of the responsibilities of other departments and external agencies as they pertain to the work.
  • Ability to effectively engage with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders in processing inquiries and delivering various information and services.
  • Proficiency in working with both manual and electronic data management systems.
  • Capability to interpret and comprehend plans and drawings related to the role.
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining reports, maps, records, and associated materials.
  • Ability to perform assigned tasks with minimal oversight.
