POSITION OVERVIEW
The City of Maple Ridge is seeking a dedicated Development Services Technician to enhance our operational team. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with exceptional communication skills, a proactive approach, and a strong commitment to customer service.
In this role, you will provide direct assistance to clients regarding technical questions related to building regulations, inspection protocols, and zoning laws. Your tasks will include reviewing and processing permit applications, scheduling inspections, maintaining data systems, and offering administrative support to our building services department.
Key responsibilities encompass assisting clients both in-person and via phone with comprehensive answers to inquiries about zoning and building codes, water services, and permit procedures. You will also ensure that application documentation is accurate, clarify any deficiencies, calculate fees, issue permits, and confirm payments.
The ideal candidate will possess strong communication abilities and a service-oriented mindset, with 3 to 4 years of experience in municipal building departments or a related field. If you are ready to make a significant contribution, we encourage you to consider this opportunity.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma complemented by introductory technical courses relevant to the role; along with considerable related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Extensive knowledge of departmental and divisional procedures, bylaws, rules, and regulations pertinent to the work performed.
- In-depth understanding of development, zoning, utilities, building, and licensing bylaws and regulations as they relate to the work performed.
- Solid knowledge of the responsibilities of other departments and external agencies as they pertain to the work performed.
- Ability to effectively engage with a variety of internal and external contacts while processing inquiries and providing a range of information and services.
- Proficiency in utilizing both manual and electronic data management systems.
- Capability to read and interpret plans and drawings related to the work performed.
- Competence in preparing and maintaining reports, maps, records, and related materials.
- Ability to perform assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
