POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Globe and Mail is in search of an Evening News Supervisor to become a member of our programming and editorial team.

This pivotal management role demands exceptional news judgment and the capacity to make critical decisions under tight deadlines.

The Evening News Supervisor is tasked with overseeing our journalism during the night, ensuring robust story selection and diversity across all platforms. This position emphasizes teamwork and collaboration across various teams within the organization.

Reporting to the Managing Editor, Priorities, the role involves finalizing the content for the publication and ensuring comprehensive coverage on digital platforms. Crafting compelling headlines, editing articles, and identifying coverage deficiencies are essential responsibilities.

This leadership position provides the chance to work on significant stories alongside talented journalists.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Managing edits for news and business stories
  • Leading headline selection for both print and digital platforms
  • Directing coverage for urgent news events
  • Supervising evening editorial staff
  • Identifying and proactively addressing coverage gaps

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least seven years of experience in a daily newsroom environment
  • Previous experience in newspaper production
  • Proven experience in team leadership
  • Strong editing and headline writing skills
  • Excellent news judgment

This is a full-time management position requiring evening work from Sunday to Thursday.

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
