Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Reporter to join our team at Metroland Media Group Ltd. The successful candidate will be responsible for generating fresh and interesting local news and feature stories, providing comprehensive and engaging coverage of municipal government, and adapting to an environment where news and information is updated frequently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with the Managing Editor to develop and implement news and feature story ideas.
  • Conduct research and interviews to gather information and insights for news and feature stories.
  • Write clean and engaging copy for news and feature stories, including data analysis and online posting skills.
  • Understand the value of information and the connection between what is being reported on and our readers.
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Diploma or degree in journalism or a related field.
  • Motivated self-starter with innovative and driven journalism skills.
  • Proven news judgment and strong work ethic.
  • Online posting skills and social media knowledge.
  • Highly organized with time management and prioritization skills.
  • Team-oriented individual with professional relationships with colleagues and the community.
  • Well-versed in Canadian libel law and Canadian Press style.
  • Prepared to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
