Job Summary

This is a challenging role that requires a strong background in transportation engineering and operations. As a Traffic Operations Specialist with Halton Region, you will be responsible for providing customer-focused services to internal and external clients on matters relating to traffic operations, maintenance, and road-related infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and maintain signal timings, levels of service, and signal control areas for Regional intersections.
  • Manage the Region's Traffic Engineering Software (TES) and ensure its effective use in traffic management.
  • Oversee the Region's annual transportation programs, including traffic data collection and traffic hardware management.
  • Conduct traffic operational and safety assessments to improve safety and efficiency of Regional Roads.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining the Region's Synchro network model.
  • Support the Region's Comprehensive Road Safety Action Plan (CROSAP) and contribute to its implementation.
  • Prepare and draft safety and traffic operations-related reports for Council.
  • Conduct warrant analysis for traffic control devices and ensure compliance with relevant standards.
  • Review design drawings and PHM's for Construction and Engineering tenders and proposed developments.
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams on external projects and ensure effective collaboration.
  • Maintain and update components of Regional road traffic and parking bylaws.
Requirements
  • Diploma in Transportation Engineering Technology or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in traffic operations and safety.
  • Strong practical knowledge of Traffic Engineering principles and practices, including comprehensive knowledge of relevant acts, manuals, guidelines, and standards.
  • Essential skills include analytical, organizational, project management, and customer service skills for leading and coordinating Regional initiatives for continuous improvement.
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, databases, and GIS applications.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration in The Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience and familiarity with traffic monitoring within the Region's Traffic Management Center.
  • Proficiency in the use of Synchro and experience with Traffic Engineering Software (TES).
Working Conditions
  • The incumbent will be required to provide their own transportation at times.
  • This position may require working early mornings or late evenings, including start times of 6:00am and finish times of 7:00pm.
  • The incumbent will be required to drive a Regional vehicle and provide a copy of their driver's license and a driver's abstract by their first day of employment.
