About Shelter Movers

Shelter Movers is a national, volunteer-powered charity providing moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse. We collaborate with local businesses and community agencies to support people (primarily women and children) as they transition to a life free of violence.

Our mission is to create a meaningful impact for families experiencing abuse, while showing allyship and playing a tangible role in breaking the cycle of gender-based violence.

The Role

This role provides expertise and leadership in the execution of Shelter Movers' Human Resources strategy, working collaboratively with the senior leadership and HR team.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and Implement HR Strategy: Develop and implement a dynamic human resources strategy in line with Shelter Movers' goals and objectives, ensuring all HR functions are performing optimally.
  2. Provide Strategic Direction: Provide strategic direction and guidance to the HR team, ensuring the human resources department has the appropriate structure and resources to meet Shelter Movers' needs.
  3. Training and Guidance: Provide training and guidance to leadership to ensure best practices are at the forefront of all HR initiatives.
  4. HR Policies and Procedures: Develop, implement, and update HR policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance and consistency, staying updated on labor laws and regulations to minimize risks.
  5. Employee Relations: Manage employee relations issues, addressing conflicts, complaints, performance, and disciplinary matters in compliance with company policies and legal regulations.
  6. Compensation and Benefits: Design and manage competitive compensation and benefits programs that attract and retain top talent.
  7. HR Data and Metrics: Utilize HR data and metrics to derive insights and inform decision-making.
  8. Change Management: Lead HR-related change management initiatives, ensuring smooth transitions during organizational changes.
Requirements
  1. A combination of HR-related education, certification, and experience is required.
  2. Minimum of 10 years of progressive HR experience, with 5 years in a managerial or leadership role.
  3. Proven ability to think strategically, align HR practices with business objectives, and drive organizational transformation.
  4. In-depth knowledge of employment laws and regulations to ensure HR practices are compliant.
  5. Fluency in French and English oral and written communication skills an asset.
  6. Ability to collaborate across departments and work effectively in a team environment.
  7. Adept at analyzing complex situations, identifying issues, and developing effective solutions.
  8. A collaborative and compassionate leadership style to build trust and inspire others to achieve common goals.
  9. Excellent judgment in setting priorities, problem, and solution identification.
  10. Experience with organizational and system-level strategic visioning and planning.
  11. Budget development experience, ability to understand a financial statement.
  12. Advanced verbal and written negotiation skills.
  13. The ability to learn new tools quickly and pivot to new trends.
  14. Understanding and interest in gender studies, including anti-racist, anti-oppressive frameworks and intersectionality of challenges faced by women and particularly survivors of abuse in the local community an asset.
  15. Strong ethics and strives for integrity and excellence in all areas of responsibility.
  16. Strong organizational skills and reliable work habits.
Role Details
  1. Part Time (21 hours) with the possibility of increase to full time.
  2. Remote position or hybrid work environment depending on your location.
  3. $40-55 per hour plus competitive benefits.
