Safety and Risk Management Consultant - Hybrid (location flexible)
SRK Consulting is a globally recognized independent consulting firm, delivering integrated services to the international mining and metals industry.
We are in search of a Safety and Risk Management Consultant.
Key Responsibilities:- Evaluate the effectiveness of Health and Safety (H&S) standards and programs across SRK North America.
- Ensure all operational units have the necessary resources to implement H&S standards effectively.
- Encourage a collaborative environment where employees can identify risks and make informed decisions regarding safety.
- Update and maintain comprehensive written H&S plans and related documentation.
- Keep precise and complete records in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Oversee H&S training initiatives, including orientation for new employees.
- Collaborate with Legal and Human Resources to develop strategies ensuring compliance with H&S regulations in Canada and the U.S., including MSHA and OSHA.
- Stay informed on regulatory changes affecting H&S compliance obligations.
- Manage Health and Safety data, including trend analysis for designated sites.
- Enhance H&S awareness through internal communications.
- Conduct investigations into accidents and near-miss incidents, determining causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Lead initiatives for continuous improvement and other measures to mitigate risks to personnel.
- Advise project managers on various safety-related matters.
- Work closely with project managers and teams to create H&S plans and risk management strategies for safe project execution.
- Perform regular office and site visits/audits to ensure adherence to H&S best practices.
- We seek an individual with a robust understanding of safety and risk management practices, capable of promoting a positive health and safety culture.
- The ideal candidate will possess a combination of the following qualifications:
- 5 - 10 years of experience in a H&S advisory or management role.
- CRSP or CSP certification.
- Knowledge of safety management system design, implementation, and auditing.
- Experience in conducting project-specific risk assessments.
- Background in technical consulting, mining, engineering, or major EPC/EPCM projects.
- Ability to interpret relevant HSE legislation and standards to assess their impact on projects.
- Excellent communication skills with a talent for facilitating group discussions.
- Confidence in engaging with project managers and stakeholders to identify H&S requirements and risk management strategies.
- Strong skills in presentation and report writing.
- Experience with third-party safety management and compliance reporting systems.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (especially Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
