1.0 Position Overview:

The CNC Technician is responsible for executing tasks within the MC Shop department, focusing on CNC machinery to meet production goals. This role encompasses setup, programming, and troubleshooting, all while ensuring a safe and efficient work environment that upholds product quality and production efficiency.

2.0 Key Responsibilities:

  • Setup, operate, program, and troubleshoot a variety of CNC machines.
  • Guide and mentor CNC operators in diagnosing and resolving issues.
  • Read and modify programs on CNC systems with different controllers.
  • Identify and rectify tooling and equipment challenges.
  • Complete production documentation, tags, and Shoplogix entries.
  • Manufacture products in accordance with specified rates and standards outlined in the Work Order.
  • Adhere to proper setup protocols and procedures.
  • Interpret production blueprints accurately.
  • Utilize appropriate measuring tools to ensure products meet quality benchmarks.
  • Report any quality or tooling concerns promptly.
  • Conduct minor repairs on machinery as necessary.
  • Ensure optimal machine cycle times are achieved.
  • Modify CNC computer programs as required.
  • Communicate effectively with service technicians when needed.
  • Rotate through various work cells and shifts as assigned.
  • Refer to the PDA for a detailed list of physical and environmental demands.

3.0 Health & Safety Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe working environment.
  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on the shop floor.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA).
  • Participate in the internal responsibility system.
  • Follow safe work and lockout/tagout protocols as necessary.
  • Report unsafe conditions or hazards to your supervisor immediately.
  • Keep the workspace clean and organized.
  • Comply with WHMIS 2015 regulations.
  • Annual medical surveillance may be required.

4.0 Quality Assurance:

  • Follow all work instructions to ensure adherence to quality standards.
  • Measure products using provided gauges to confirm quality compliance.
  • Notify the quality department and your supervisor of any defective or damaged products.
  • Implement procedures for controlling non-conforming products.
  • Utilize the vision system for initial inspections per production run.

5.0 Autonomous Maintenance:

  • Inspect your work cell according to specific Autonomous Maintenance requirements before your shift starts.
  • Complete and sign the AM checklist daily.
  • Follow the Process Problem Solving and Escalation system for any identified issues.

6.0 5S Standards:

  • Maintain your work area according to daily 5S standards.
  • Dedicate time at the end of your shift to uphold 5S standards.
  • Sign off on the 5S checklist daily.
  • Address any deviations from 5S standards immediately or document them for follow-up.
  • Participate in monthly 5S clean-up activities as required.

7.0 Daily Management:

  • Enter Work Order and production data into the Shoplogix system as required.
  • Record scrap data during your shift in the Shoplogix system.
  • Log downtime codes for any identified downtime in the Shoplogix system.
  • Engage in weekly DM meetings and problem-solving sessions.
  • Utilize cell-level data to drive process improvements.
  • Communicate issues on the cell-level board as necessary.

8.0 Standard Work Compliance:

  • Adhere to Standard Work procedures displayed in the work cell.
  • Address any deviations from standard work procedures immediately.

9.0 Qualifications:

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Programming knowledge is advantageous.
  • Capability to comprehend various machine manuals.
  • Proficiency in using various measuring instruments.
  • Familiarity with the JDE system for Work Orders.
  • Understanding of quality inspection requirements.
  • Ability to troubleshoot CNC machine programs.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Excellent computer proficiency.
  • Ability to follow work instructions accurately.
  • Technical background and general machine knowledge.
  • Experience in tool grinding is beneficial.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Successful completion of all relevant pre-employment assessments.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Must achieve a minimum score of 90% on all testing requirements.

10.0 Educational Background:

  • O.S.S.D or equivalent educational qualifications.
  • A passing grade of 90% or better on all testing requirements.

11.0 Additional Skills and Knowledge:

  • Adherence to all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by management.
