1.0 Position Overview:

The CNC Technician is responsible for executing tasks in the MC Shop department related to CNC machinery to fulfill production objectives. This role encompasses setup, programming, and troubleshooting of CNC equipment, ensuring that all operations are conducted safely and efficiently while maintaining product quality and meeting production targets.

2.0 Key Responsibilities:

  • Setup, operate, program, and troubleshoot various CNC machines
  • Guide and mentor CNC operators in diagnosing and resolving issues
  • Interpret and modify programs on CNC machinery with different controllers
  • Address tooling and equipment challenges
  • Complete production documentation, tags, and Shoplogix entries
  • Manufacture products according to the specifications outlined in the Work Order
  • Adhere to proper setup protocols and procedures
  • Read and analyze production blueprints
  • Utilize appropriate measuring tools to ensure product quality
  • Report any quality or tooling discrepancies
  • Conduct minor repairs on machinery as necessary
  • Optimize product cycle times to meet established standards
  • Adjust and refine CNC computer programs as needed
  • Communicate effectively with service technicians when required
  • Rotate through various work cells and shifts as necessary
  • Refer to the PDA for a detailed list of physical and environmental demands

3.0 Health & Safety Compliance:

  • Maintain a safe working environment
  • Utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as mandated on the shop floor
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA)
  • Participate in the internal responsibility system (right to know, right to refuse, right to participate)
  • Follow safe work and lockout/tagout protocols
  • Promptly report unsafe conditions or hazards to a supervisor
  • Keep the workspace clean and organized
  • Comply with WHMIS 2015 standards
  • Annual medical surveillance may be required

4.0 Quality Assurance:

  • Adhere to all work instructions and procedures to ensure quality compliance
  • Measure products using provided gauges as per quality standards
  • Notify the quality department and supervisor of any defective or damaged products
  • Follow procedures for managing non-conforming products
  • Utilize the vision system for initial inspections per production run

5.0 Autonomous Maintenance:

  • Inspect the work cell for specific Autonomous Maintenance (AM) requirements before the shift
  • Complete the AM checklist daily (initial and date)
  • Follow the Process Problem Solving and Escalation system for any identified issues

6.0 5S Standards:

  • Ensure the work area meets daily 5S standards
  • Dedicate 5 minutes at the end of the shift to uphold 5S standards
  • Sign off on the 5S checklist daily (initial and date)
  • Address any deviations from 5S standards immediately or document for follow-up
  • Support monthly 5S clean-up initiatives as required

7.0 Daily Management:

  • Enter Work Order and production data into the Shoplogix system as needed
  • Record scrap during the shift in the Shoplogix system (include scrap code and quantity)
  • Input the appropriate downtime code for any identified downtime in the Shoplogix system
  • Engage in weekly DM meetings and problem-solving sessions
  • Utilize cell-level data to drive process improvement and escalation
  • Communicate issues at the cell level board as necessary

8.0 Standard Work Procedures:

  • Follow Standard Work procedures as displayed in the work cell
  • Correct any deviations from standard work procedures immediately

9.0 Qualifications:

  • Ability to interpret blueprints
  • Programming knowledge is advantageous
  • Capability to read and understand various machine manuals
  • Proficiency in using different measuring instruments
  • Familiarity with the JDE system (Work orders for products)
  • Understanding of quality inspection requirements
  • Ability to comprehend CNC machine programs and troubleshoot faults
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Excellent computer proficiency
  • Ability to follow work instructions accurately
  • Capability to read job packages and Work Orders
  • Technical knowledge and general understanding of machinery
  • Knowledge and skill in tool grinding
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Successful completion of all required pre-employment assessments
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Must achieve a score of 90% or higher on all assessments

10.0 Educational Background:

  • O.S.S.D or equivalent
  • A passing grade of 90% or higher on all testing requirements

11.0 Additional Skills and Knowledge:

  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management
