1.0 Position Overview:

The role involves executing tasks within the MC Shop department related to CNC machinery to meet production targets. Responsibilities include setup, programming, and troubleshooting of CNC equipment, all performed in a safe and efficient manner to ensure product quality and production efficiency.

2.0 Key Responsibilities:

  • Setup, operate, program, and troubleshoot a variety of CNC machines
  • Guide and mentor CNC operators in diagnosing and resolving issues
  • Read and modify programs on CNC machines with different controllers
  • Address tooling and equipment challenges
  • Complete production documentation and utilize Shoplogix
  • Manufacture products according to specified rates and standards
  • Adhere to proper setup guidelines and procedures
  • Interpret production blueprints accurately
  • Employ appropriate measuring tools to ensure product quality
  • Report any quality or tooling concerns
  • Conduct minor repairs on machinery as necessary
  • Ensure optimal cycle times for production
  • Adjust and update CNC computer programs as needed
  • Communicate effectively with service technicians when required
  • Rotate through various work cells and shifts as necessary
  • Refer to the PDA for a detailed list of physical and work environment demands

3.0 Health & Safety Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe working environment
  • Utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as mandated on the shop floor
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Participate in the internal responsibility system
  • Follow safety protocols including lockout/tagout procedures
  • Report unsafe conditions or hazards promptly to supervisors
  • Keep the workspace clean and organized
  • Comply with WHMIS 2015 regulations
  • Annual medical evaluations may be required

4.0 Quality Assurance:

  • Follow all work instructions to maintain quality standards
  • Measure products using provided gauges to ensure compliance with quality specifications
  • Notify the quality department and supervisors of any defective or damaged products
  • Implement the control procedures for non-conforming products
  • Utilize the vision system for initial inspections per production run

5.0 Autonomous Maintenance:

  • Inspect the work cell for specific autonomous maintenance requirements before the shift
  • Complete the daily AM checklist
  • Address any issues found through the Process Problem Solving and Escalation system

6.0 5S Standards:

  • Ensure compliance with daily 5S standards in the work area
  • Dedicate time at the end of each shift to uphold 5S standards
  • Complete the daily 5S checklist
  • Correct any deviations from 5S standards immediately or document for follow-up
  • Support monthly 5S clean-up initiatives

7.0 Daily Management Tasks:

  • Input work order and production data into the Shoplogix system
  • Record scrap during shifts in the Shoplogix system
  • Log downtime codes for any identified production interruptions
  • Engage in weekly DM meetings and problem-solving sessions
  • Utilize cell-level data to drive process improvements
  • Communicate issues at the cell level as necessary

8.0 Standard Operating Procedures:

  • Adhere to Standard Work procedures displayed in the work area
  • Address any deviations from these procedures immediately

9.0 Qualifications:

  • Ability to interpret blueprints
  • Programming knowledge is advantageous
  • Capability to read and understand various machine manuals
  • Proficiency in using different measuring instruments
  • Familiarity with JDE system for work orders
  • Understanding of quality inspection requirements
  • Ability to comprehend CNC machine programs and troubleshoot faults
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Excellent computer proficiency
  • Ability to follow work instructions accurately
  • Technical knowledge of machinery
  • Experience in tool grinding is beneficial
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Successful completion of all pre-employment assessments
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team
  • Achieve a minimum score of 90% on all testing requirements

10.0 Educational Background:

  • Completion of O.S.S.D or equivalent
  • Maintain a passing grade of 90% or better on all testing

11.0 Additional Skills and Knowledge:

  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by management
