Position Overview

WSP in Canada is seeking an Engagement Specialist who possesses a robust background in consulting with diverse stakeholders, including the public, private sector, governmental bodies, and Indigenous communities. This role is pivotal in fostering collaborative projects that respect and incorporate various perspectives and insights.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and execute communication and stakeholder engagement strategies across multiple sectors such as transportation, energy, and resource management.
  • Facilitate stakeholder meetings, public forums, community liaison committees, and virtual engagements.
  • Lead consultation initiatives with Indigenous communities, ensuring that project descriptions are clear and accessible, and gather feedback to create cooperative project plans.
  • Coordinate logistical arrangements for stakeholder meetings, prepare presentation materials, and document meeting outcomes.
  • Build and nurture relationships with Indigenous Nations, community members, project partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Draft comprehensive reports, technical documents, and stakeholder engagement plans.
  • Promote active participation of Indigenous communities and other stakeholders in the Environmental Assessment and permitting processes.
  • Adhere to health and safety policies, exemplifying WSP's commitment to corporate values.
  • Primarily work from home or office, with occasional travel for short-term engagements.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental studies, environmental science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in environmental planning or managing environmental permits and approvals.
  • Familiarity with Indigenous history, culture, and governance.
  • Understanding of the Canadian regulatory landscape, particularly regarding Indigenous engagement.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; proficiency in an Indigenous language or bilingualism in English and French is advantageous.
  • Experience collaborating on complex projects within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven ability to cultivate client relationships.
  • A strong enthusiasm for the field, with consideration given to candidates demonstrating potential and a desire for professional growth.
